“All through the process of selecting Flatiron Solutions for our e-commerce project, they asked relevant questions about our needs, and from the questions, I could see that they were very familiar with the work we needed done.

After selecting them, I was amazed with the speed with which they did the work. They communicated with us quickly and efficiently, and their knowledge and expertise were evident throughout the process. Our work was done on time and on budget, exactly as promised. What more could you ask for?”

Flatiron Solutions Created the First Public Web Site for the African Burial Ground National Landmark

We are proud to have created the public web site for the African Burial Ground National Monument under contract to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Working closely with staff of the GSA and later the National Park Service (NPS) and Army Corps of Engineers, we incorporated content from many different sources to enrich the web site.

Ten years of newsletters created by the African Burial Ground Office of Public Education and Interpretation (OPEI) were imaged and made available as PDF files along with current documents that were already available in digital form.

Press coverage was gathered from newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations to offer the public an opportunity to see varied opinions.

Brochures developed by GSA to educate the public about the African Burial Ground and commemorate the 2003 Reinterment were made available as PDF files. After the NPS became involved, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between GSA and NPS and various supporting documents were made available as PDF files.

During the selection process for the design of a public memorial for the burial ground, each of the five finalist designs were presented to the public with text, images and, in some cases, videos. Comments about the designs were gathered at a series of public forums and also through the web site.

Flatiron Mainframe Data Engine Loads Internet-Based Data Warehouse for Market Insights

Market Insights Website“Market Insights provides an Internet-based Data Warehouse system to the Healthcare Industry. Flatiron Solutions and StorageTek are critical to our success. New data is continuously loaded into our terabyte-class data warehouse. We process hundreds of 3480 cartridges at a time, representing tens of millions of records.”

“A good portion of the data consists of complex COBOL record structures, requiring normalization, data conversion, and Year-2000 century correction. Without the efficiency of the StorageTek tape handling and the data migration and processing automation of Mainframe Data Engine 2000 from Flatiron Solutions, I don’t know how we would do it.”

Flatiron Mainframe Data Engine Archives 10,000 Mainframe Cartridges for the Largest Cellular Carrier in Greece

Panafon_MapPANAFON is the largest cellular carrier in Greece and an integral part of Greece’s telecommunications infrastructure. They were confronted with the problem of how to meet government requirements to retain access to historical data stored on some 10,000 3480 cartridges from their ICL host system.

Working closely with Decision Systems Integration, located in Athens, Greece, Flatiron Solutions supplied PANAFON with Mainframe Data Engine 2000, integrated with a StorageTek tape library. PANAFON is now in production, duplicating the 10,000 3480 cartridges to compressed disk archives, which are then stored in a magneto-optical jukebox. From the archives, complete sets of cartridge data may be regenerated to tape media, or loaded into PC spreadsheets, databases, and SQL database servers.
