Flatiron Solutions Created the First Public Website for the African Burial Ground National Landmark

Flatiron Solutions is proud to have created the public website for the African Burial Ground National Monument under contract to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Working closely with staff of the GSA and later the National Park Service (NPS) and Army Corps of Engineers, we incorporated content from many different sources to enrich the website.

Ten years of newsletters created by the African Burial Ground Office of Public Education and Interpretation (OPEI) were imaged and made available as PDF files along with current documents that were already available in digital form.

Press coverage was gathered from newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations to offer the public an opportunity to see varied opinions.

Brochures developed by GSA to educate the public about the African Burial Ground and commemorate the 2003 Reinterment were made available as PDF files. After the NPS became involved, the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between GSA and NPS and various supporting documents were made available as PDF files.

During the selection process for the design of a public memorial for the burial ground, each of the five finalist designs were presented to the public with text, images and, in some cases, videos. Comments about the designs were gathered at a series of public forums and also through the web site.
